2nd year collection::Bloodlines and Frequencies

Bloodlines and Frequencies is a collection that explores the complexities of cultural inheritance, identity, and belonging. Inspired by my experiences as someone navigating both Ndebele and Ghanaian heritage, the project examines the visible and invisible ways culture shapes us, whether through direct influence, memory, absence, or imagination.

The collection draws from the bold visual language and presence of the Ndebele women I grew up around, contrasted with my relationship to my Ghanaian heritage, which remained distant due to my father's absence. Rather than presenting culture as something fixed or easily defined, the collection reflects on the fragmented ways we come to understand our roots and how personal identity is formed between what is inherited and what is experienced.

Through colour, silhouette, texture, and symbolism, each look represents a stage in this journey. Vibrant, expressive garments celebrate cultural presence and influence, while later looks explore fading connections and unanswered questions. The collection ultimately culminates in a final look that symbolizes emergence and self-definition, a recognition that identity is not only shaped by the generations before us but also by what we choose to carry forward.

Bloodlines and Frequencies is both a tribute and a personal reflection, exploring how heritage continues to resonate through us like a frequency, even when its source feels distant.
